In 1966, Lee College, under the leadership of Dean Rundell and George Beto, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Corrections, began a program of courses in the state's prison system. This program has grown from 182 students that first year to more than 1,200 students today.

A wide range of academic and technical education courses is taught by the Lee College Huntsville Center at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division.

Lee College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097 or call 404.679.4500 for questions about the accreditation of Lee College.

Certificates of completion are also awarded in several technical programs.
