Grants

  PDF this page

Grants are funds that the student receives from a government entity, such as the U.S. Department of Education or the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The students do not have to pay back these funds if he/she completes the term for which the funds are paid. Below is a list of the grants available at Lee College:

Pell Grants

Pell Grants are the building blocks of all financial aid. Congress sets Pell Grant award amounts each year.

The amount of Pell Grant you may receive is determined by the EFC that is calculated by the Department of Education, the Financial Aid Budget or Cost of Attendance and your enrollment status (full, half or three-quarter time).

The following chart provides more information:

Name Hours requirement Additional Application Requirements
Pell Grant Awards Adjusted based on enrollment:
12+ hours= Full Time = Full award
9-11 hours = 3/4 Time = 3/4 Award
6-8 hours = 1/2 Time = 1/2 Award
<6 hours = < 1/2 Time = Contact FA Office
None

Students in Continuing Education, Dual Enrollment and certain non-citizens may not be eligible for federal aid.

Lee College has been chosen to participate in the Second Chance Pell Program which offers Pell Grants to many of our students from our Huntsville Center campus that are not currently eligible for federal aid. The grant is based on a budget for tuition and fees only and otherwise has to meet all other Pell Grant regulations.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Some students with the highest financial need may qualify for an additional sum of money along with the Pell Grant. Lee College is allocated a limited amount of funds at the beginning of each year to award throughout the year. Generally speaking students should be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours).

Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)

These funds are generated from a portion of the tuition recognized by the state. Lee College awards these funds to some students with an EFC of 3800 or higher. The funds are very limited and the awards are limited to $1000. Students must be in at least 6 hours to take advantage of this award.

Non-citizens and students participating in some Continuing Education and Dual Enrollment classes may be eligible for some TPEG funds.

Texas Grant

Texas residents who show some financial need by completing the FAFSA may be eligible for Texas Grant funds. However, Lee College does not participate in this program.

Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG)

Texas residents who show some financial need by completing the FAFSA may be eligible for Texas Educational Opportunity Grant funds if they:

  • Have not been convicted of a felony or a crime involving a controlled substance and have completed the permissions here.
  • Registered with Selective Service (if required)
  • Have a SAI (Student Aid Index) of 9000 or less AND/OR have unmet need as calculated by the FAFSA submission
  • Enroll at least half-time (6 semester hours)
  • Do not have an associate degree

Awards will be made based on these requirements and the school’s funding level in the fall semester.

Continuing eligible students are reviewed yearly until you meet the maximum eligibility requirements.

If you have lost TEOG eligibility due to not meeting our SAP policy or if you have a hardship you would like the financial aid office to consider for continuing awards, you may submit a financial aid appeal through the campus logic portal.

These awards will not be available for registration, and are posted to student’s account after the semester has begun.
