Review of Minutes from Nov. 7

Approved as written.

Old Business

  • Pinwheel Project – Due to delays in securing the location, the Pinwheel project is postponed. Amber is recommending that we look at May during Prevention Week—a time set aside to raise awareness of substance use prevention and to promote positive mental health.
  • Faculty Tobacco Survey – the final report for the tobacco survey should be completed by the end of the month. With the Core survey (student data), we hope to be able to compare tobacco questions with both staff and students.
Peers Against Tobacco Report – Melissa gave a report for the PAT student group. They are planning to attend both the Health Fair (March 24) and Spring Fling (April 1). Several of the students will be attending the Tobacco Summit in April as well. At their last meeting, they elected new officers. Their next meeting will be March 18 at 2 p.m.

New Business

  • Tobacco Summit – In addition to the students attending the Tobacco Summit in April, Howard, Vanessa, Amber, Rosemary, Tiffany and Crystal (Veterans Center) have committed to attend. Tiffany is an approved van driver and has reserved the van for the day. Some are attending the first day only (college focus).
    • The Peers Against Tobacco group would still like to have t-shirts ready for the activities. Amber will work with Nathan on the design and getting that done.
  • Tobacco Free Campus Policy – As part of the Tobacco Project, we will be looking at ways to better comply with our tobacco free policy on campus. The recent tobacco survey of staff indicated that there was good awareness of the policy and that there was support for the smoke free policy. In addition:
    • There was a discussion on the need to look at signage and making sure everyone is aware that we are a smoke free campus. By changing the culture of the campus, we hope that enforcement will be easier. There are a number of resources for signage through our partnership with Peers Against Tobacco and ETU.
    • The Peers Against Tobacco group can do an environmental scan so that we will have more information on where to put the signage.
  • Staff Tobacco Survey - A copy of the report of the Staff Tobacco Survey was shared with the group. Once finalized, we will get it out to all members.
  • Spring Fling-
  • We need to assure that security attends our meetings to be part of our discussion.
  • Health Fair – March 24 (1 – 4 p.m.)
  • Spring Fling – April 1 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m )
  • Summer Bash – Melissa Gill will be working with Rosemary and the group in helping with the planning of the Summer Bash on April 29.
    • We will get the “Save the Date” emails out prior to spring break
    • We are adding ADAPT to the vendor list. Melissa will get the contact information for the Save the Date email.
    • We will have a planning meeting on March 26 at 1:30 p.m. (location TBA). This will be for anyone interested in helping to include Howard, Amber, Mike, Rosemary, and Melissa.
    • Once the Save the Date email is out, Amber will check with the Fire Department to make sure we can get the pedal cars this year.
  • Procrasti-vape Lounge – As part of the Summer Bash, UT's Peers Against Tobacco group will be coming to Lee College to set up the Procrasti-vape Lounge. It’s strategically set up to look like a recreational vape lounge with nice rugs and seating. Its purpose is to attract students to come and procrastinate for a little and learn how many “bad” habits are still better than vaping. We will work on a separate flyer for this event to help market the event.

Announcements

  • The Biennial Report will be due at the end of the summer.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be Tuesday March 26 at 1:30 p.m. (Summer Bash planning committee)
