Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it undergoes. Chemistry is called the central science because a basic knowledge of chemistry is essential in many scientific fields, including biology, physics, geology, engineering, and material science.
The Lee College chemistry program has the goal of providing training and knowledge in fundamental chemistry principles, critical thinking using those fundamentals, analytical chemistry techniques, and a thorough knowledge of organic chemistry fundamentals.
Because of its central role in science, many students take chemistry courses as part of another degree plan. The courses are designed to give students the basic language of chemistry to help them succeed in future course work.
Many careers require education beyond the associate degree. Students should work with their advisor to tailor course selections to align with their chosen transfer university. The transfer plan on this page shows a tailored example for a university commonly chosen by Lee College students. However, students may choose to continue their education at any university.
