– Option 1: Applicant obtains I-20 and travels back to home country to apply for reentry to the U.S. as an F-1 student. For individuals on temporary visas, this is usually the best option, increasing the likelihood that F-1 status will be approved.
Option 2: Applicant obtains I-20 and then attempts to change status while in the U.S. by completing the Form I-539 Application to Change Nonimmigrant Status. This change of status request is often denied for applicants of certain visa classifications. Consult with Registrar or Assistant Registrar to determine what might be your best option. - After Change of Status is Complete
